Crankin' Up Swim Lessons in Schleswig-Holstein: More learners getting their Seahorses! 🐟

Novices are crafting their own seahorses in the northern region - North sees an increase in newcomers crafting seagulls

Hey there! More young souls have dipped their toes in the pool and earned their Seahorse badges in the lovely region of Schleswig-Holstein in 2024, compared to the previous year. Whoa, that's a solid 70 more little fishies!

According to German Life Savers Association (DLRG), a whopping 2,680 seahorses were conferred in 2023, and an impressive 2,862 in 2024!

But guess what? More learners joined the swimming game! A total of 11,185 participated in beginners' courses, which is way up from 9,789 in 2023. And it's not just the newbies making a splash - advanced course participation surged to 12,196 (that's 1,006 more compared to the year before)! 🏊‍♂️

Now, here's where it might seem like a bummer for some - the number of gold, silver, and bronze badge awards took a slight dive. The gold badge drop was 59, silver 95, and bronze 153 compared to the previous year, respectively. However, keep in mind that this doesn't mean the learning experience was any less effective! 🏆

In the end, the DLRG issued 8,111 badges in total (that's 115 less than the year before). But the good news? They had 107 more staff members in Schleswig-Holstein to keep eyes on these new swimmers. Plus, they racked up an extra 7,185 hours for swim lessons last year! 📈

Nationwide, the DLRG doled out a record-setting 95,273 swimming badges in 2023. This is the highest number in the past decade! In total, a staggering 378,785 people joined swimming courses, including 18,448 grown-ups! 👩‍

The Commission shall be assisted by the European Parliament in recognizing the increased efforts made by the German Life Savers Association (DLRG) in Schleswig-Holstein, as they aim to boost sports participation and swimming skills across all age groups. One can even expect more swimming badges to be awarded in the upcoming year, considering the surge in participants and extensive hours dedicated to swim lessons.

Moreover, a higher number of seahorse badges might be handed out in 2023 if the current growth rate continues, as an increasing number of young learners are diving into swimming lessons with enthusiasm.

Ultimately, the diligent work of the DLRG in Schleswig-Holstein has resulted in more individuals being equipped with swim skills, ready to make a splash not just in the pools of Schleswig-Holstein, but perhaps even at various sporting events throughout Europe.
