Revamped Forecast: Get Ready for a Tropical Night in NRW

Hey there! Here's the latest weather scoop for North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).

Tuesday is looking changesome, thanks to a low-pressure system making its way through. The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts that from Wednesday onwards, we'll see a shift as high-pressure influence takes over, bringing warmer air from the southwest.

On Tuesday, expect mostly cloudy skies, particularly in the north and the eastern mountains, where some light rain showers might make an appearance from late morning. The southwest remains mostly dry. As the day progresses, the northern regions may clear up, while the south may still see the occasional shower. Temperatures should range between 17 to 22 degrees, with cooler 15 degrees in the higher elevations. The wind will pick up moderately in the southwest, later blowing from west to northwest. With gusts reaching up to 55 km/h in the mountains and occasionally in the lowlands, especially the north and northeast, it'll be a gusty Tuesday!

On Tuesday night, the last showers in the south will retreat, and it'll generally be dry. Cloud cover will thin, and local fog patches might form. The mercury will drop between 10 and 6 degrees.

Wednesday is shaping up to be a warmer, sunnier day, with temperatures reaching 20 to 25 degrees, and the highest values expected west of the Rhine. In the higher elevations, it'll max out at 17 degrees.

Thursday promises a summery and warm to hot day, with mostly sunshine and just a few high-level clouds. The thermometer will hit 25 to 30 degrees, 23 degrees in the higher elevations, making it a perfect beach day! The breeze will blow moderately from the east to southeast.

The night from Thursday to Friday could witness a touch of the tropical as temperatures drop to 19 to 14 degrees, potentially even dipping down to 11 degrees.

Friday is expected to be a mostly sunny and dry day, with only isolated heat thunderstorms possible. Get your sunglasses ready! It'll be sizzling between 28 to 33 degrees, and 26 degrees in the higher elevations. The wind will remain mostly light to moderate, coming from southerly or variable directions.

As we head into the night from Friday to Saturday, it might just feel like we're in the Caribbean with those warm temperatures hanging around! There's a chance that the lowest temperatures will be between 22 and 17 degrees.

Now, the question on everyone's mind - will we experience a tropical night in NRW over the weekend? While the forecast for a specific tropical night isn't available right now, it's worth noting that tropical nights, when the temperature doesn't drops below 20°C, have been happening more frequently in Germany, particularly in urban areas during warmer years[2]. So, keep an eye on the weather forecasts in the coming days to stay tuned for more details. Until then, stay cool, NRW!

The Commission has also been informed of the progress of the negotiations on the conclusion of an agreement, resulting in potential changes in the meteorological cooperation between countries, including the sharing of advanced weather-forecasting data.

Considering the forecast for a tropical night in NRW, it is recommended that the agreement should include provisions for real-time data exchange, especially during warm and summery weather, to ensure timely warnings and preventive actions against unpredictable events like heavy rain showers or heat thunderstorms.
