North Light safeguards its position as SV Wehen Wiesbaden faces off against Jakob Lewald.
In a move to strengthen its defense and invigorate its offensive game, German football club SV Wehen Wiesbaden has made two significant signings. Central defender Jakob Lewald and playmaker Donny Bogicevic have joined the club on free transfers from SV Sandhausen and an unspecified team, respectively.
Jakob Lewald, a versatile defender standing at 1.94 meters tall, has signed a contract until the summer of 2027. Lewald is expected to bring defensive security and impetus to the game for SV Wehen Wiesbaden, with Uwe Stöver, sports director of the club, praising Lewald's ability to play in both a four-man and three-man backline.
Lewald's career history preceding his move to SV Wehen Wiesbaden is marked by his time with SV Werder Bremen and various German clubs. He began his career with SV Werder Bremen's U-19 team in 2019, before moving to their second team in 2020. Lewald made his debut for the main SV Werder Bremen squad in 2021, and also spent the 2022–2023 season on loan at SG Dynamo Dresden, where his impressive performances led to a permanent move in 2023.
Donny Bogicevic, a playmaker with second-tier experience, has also joined SV Wehen Wiesbaden on a free transfer. Bogicevic is expected to significantly enliven the club's offensive game.
Before joining SV Wehen Wiesbaden, Bogicevic had stints at various German clubs, including Viktoria Berlin and FC Viktoria Köln, where he recently transferred from.
Jakob Lewald has expressed his eagerness to integrate quickly, communicate a lot, and bring his experience to the club. Lewald brings extensive experience from 131 third-tier games, having worn the SV Sandhausen jersey 32 times last season and leading the team as captain on several occasions.
Meanwhile, SV Wehen Wiesbaden suffered its first away loss of the season, with a 3:1 defeat in Berlin against Viktoria Berlin. Despite the setback, the club remains optimistic about its prospects with the addition of Lewald and Bogicevic to its squad.
