North Korean Soldiers Vanish from Ukrainian Battlefront: Insight into the Odd Disappearance by Military Experts

Kim Jong Un isn't ready to send troops to Russia just yet.

In theory, North Korea could easily part ways with 100,000 soldiers, as it boasts a massive army of approximately 1.5 million soldiers. However, that's not what military expert Pavel Narozhny, founder of "Reactive Post," is suggesting. According to Narozhny, speaking on Radio NV, "Kim Jong Un" has other matters on his mind at the moment.

"North Korea has around 4 million reservists who can be mobilized swiftly. Still, remember, Putin needs to offer Kim Jong Un something in return, as those 11,000 who visited Russia before were there for education and combat experience. So, it's unlikely that we'll see tens or hundreds of thousands of North Korean soldiers in Ukraine anytime soon," Narozhny stated.

Narozhny further expressed that Kim Jong Un is currently more concerned about South Korea, with a potential military invasion on his mind. On the other hand, Putin has yet to present any enticing offers.

"That said, it's not entirely ruled out that military or engineering units or workers who can assemble 'Shahids' might appear," Narozhny added.

Insight: Kim Jong Un's focus lies in modernizing North Korea's military, emphasizing advanced technologies like unmanned equipment, AI, drones, electronic warfare, and AI to overcome conventional military limitations [2]. He is also consolidating ties with Russia through material support, especially in the context of the Russo-Ukrainian War, by supplying Russia with weapons and ammunition, such as tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, self-propelled howitzers, and multiple rocket launchers [2]. Some attention is also diverted to civilian projects, with hospital construction underway in recently military areas [1].

  1. The current focus of Kim Jong Un seems to be on developing North Korea's military with advanced technologies, such as unmanned equipment, AI, drones, electronic warfare, and AI, rather than sending troops to Russia for war-and-conflicts, like the situation in Ukraine.
  2. Despite speculation about North Korea sending soldiers to Russia, military expert Pavel Narozhny stated that it is unlikely due to political considerations, suggesting that any collaboration between the two countries would involve something of value being offered to Kim Jong Un in return, such as education and combat experience for reservists.
