North Korea perceives a security concern from the "Golden Dome" entity.

Article:

The United States' proposed missile defense system, dubbed "Golden Dome," has sparked concerns over space militarization, with North Korea and other global powers, including Russia and China, expressing disapproval.

North Korea's state media has strongly criticized the prospective US missile defense system, calling it a "dangerous threatening initiative" that could exacerbate security concerns for nuclear-armed states. According to the KCNA news agency, Pyongyang's Foreign Ministry believes the US aims to militarize space by implementing "Golden Dome."

The system's intended purpose is to protect the US from a diverse range of aerial threats, employing both ground-based and space-based elements to intercept missiles at varying stages of their trajectory. The defense architecture outlines multiple phases: pre-launch, boost, midcourse, and terminal, aiming to detect, track, and intercept missiles throughout their flight.

The system plans to deploy a significant number of satellites, ranging from 400 to over 1,000, to furnish global missile tracking and targeting capabilities. Additionally, an estimated 200 attack satellites, armed with kinetic interceptors or directed-energy weapons, would be assigned to neutralize hostile projectiles.

Critics, however, have raised concerns regarding the potential militarization of space, arguing that the "Golden Dome's" emphasis on countering advanced threats from countries like Russia and China may provoke these nations to develop or strengthen their own space-based military capabilities. Other concerns include cost, feasibility, and the risk of escalating an arms race in space.

The US, under President Trump, has maintained that "Golden Dome" is critical for the nation's success and survival, capable of intercepting missiles, regardless of their origin or launch location, once completed in three years. Previously, China expressed concerns that the proposed missile shield could disrupt the global strategic balance.

North Korea, an isolated nation with alleged nuclear weapons, has long been subject to UN sanctions, despite continuing its nuclear and missile program with the support of China and Russia. The country has repeatedly violated UN Security Council resolutions with missile tests.

  1. The community policy should address the concerns over space militarization, as the economic and monetary union must not be disrupted due to potential conflicts arising from the implementation of the "Golden Dome" missile defense system, which could lead to an economic and monetary union-wide arms race in space.
  2. In the realm of general news and science, it is essential to monitor the deployment of the "Golden Dome" system, given its impact on space-and-astronomy and politics, particularly as it could escalate tensions with North Korea and other global powers, such as Russia and China.
