North Georgia schools close early as winter weather sweeps through region

Several schools in North Georgia have announced early dismissals and cancelled evening events on Monday, November 9, due to expected winter weather. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. on Tuesday, with up to an inch of snow expected to accumulate.

Dawson County Schools will dismiss students early on Monday. Grades 6 to 12 will be released at 1:30 p.m., followed by kindergarten to grade 5 at 2 p.m. All extracurricular activities have been cancelled. Similarly, Fannin County Schools will also have an early release, with all after-school activities scrapped. Gilmer County Schools will release students one hour early, and all evening events are called off. Lumpkin County Schools have cancelled all after-school activities and rescheduled their Board of Education meeting to Wednesday. No specific details were found about schools in Georgia being dismissed early on Tuesday, November 10.

Parents and guardians are advised to make necessary arrangements for their children's early dismissal on Monday. The winter weather advisory urges caution, with potential snow accumulation impacting travel. School officials will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
