Arrival of Spring Marks Radiance, Warmth, and Rain showers in Northern Regions

Springing into a Warm(ish) Weekend in Northern Germany: What You Need to Know

Blossoming spring brings sunshine, warmth, and showers to the northern regions. - North experiences sunshine, warmth, and rainfall in its spring season.

Spring's here, but don't pack away your raincoats just yet! The start of this season in Northern Germany, particularly in Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is shaping up to be a mix of warmth, sunshine, and showers, according to our friendly weather pro from the German Weather Service (DWD).

What's more, the coming weekend promises some mild temperatures, expected to hit 17 to 19 degrees Celsius in parts on Friday. Keep those grills dusted off for a barbecue, or head out to the North Sea, Elbe, or Mecklenburg Lake District for a sunny seaside stroll!

But, let's not get ahead of ourselves

Saturday brings a change in the weather forecast, the DWD spokesperson advises. While the North will bask in milder than usual conditions, it'll be breezier, and there's a chance of scattered showers, especially in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Fret not, though – those on the Baltic coast can expect to catch some extended sun rays!

Cooling off on Sunday

The mercury will drop up north on Sunday, reaching highs of only 14 degrees Celsius. Scattered showers, remnants of our dry March so far, might make an appearance.

Watch out for forest fire threats!

The dry spell is also raising forest fire concerns. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Agriculture Minister, Till Backhaus (SPD), has issued a warning about the increasing fire danger, with the forest fire season now underway. Areas like Rostock, Nordwest-Mecklenburg, Ludwigslust-Parchim, and Mecklenburg Lake District currently have a medium fire danger level (3), while Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein face a low to medium fire risk, according to the DWD.

Backhaus encourages caution when handling fire in the great outdoors: avoid smoking in the woods, don't toss cigarette butts out of your car, and steer clear of woodland campfires and barbecues this weekend.
