North Division Championship of WCL went to Bells, defeating the Riverhawks.
Edmonton Riverhawks Make History with First-Round Playoff Victory
The Edmonton Riverhawks have etched their name in the annals of West Coast League (WCL) history, securing their first-ever playoff series win and reaching the second round of the postseason for the first time.
In a thrilling best-of-three series, the Riverhawks defeated the Victoria HarbourCats 2-1. The decisive game, an 8-7 victory at home on August 10, 2025, clinched the series for Edmonton and propelled them into the North Division Championship game against the Bellingham Bells on August 12.
However, the Riverhawks' journey came to an end in the North Division final, a single winner-take-all game played at RE/MAX Field. Despite a valiant effort, Edmonton lost 5-2 to Bellingham after a rain/lightning delay, ending their 2025 playoff run.
The Riverhawks' postseason statistics were impressive, with highlights including their first-round victory over Victoria, their advancement to the North Division Championship, and their home playoff games at RE/MAX Field. The 2025 playoffs followed a best-of-three format, with the Riverhawks securing home field advantage as North Division champions entering the postseason.
Meanwhile, the Riverhawks' impressive attendance record continued this summer, as they hosted nearly 132,000 fans, setting a new WCL single-season attendance record for the third consecutive season.
As the dust settles on the 2025 WCL playoffs, attention now turns to the league championship. The Bellingham Bells will face the 2024 champions, the Portland Pickles, for the title on Thursday. The Pickles secured their spot with a 6-5 victory over the Corvallis Knights on Tuesday.
The Riverhawks may have missed out on the championship this year, but their historic run has undoubtedly set a new standard for the team and the city of Edmonton. The Riverhawks thanked their fans on social media for an unbelievable season, promising to come back stronger next year.
