Noroña Fernández assumes judicial election outcomes despite opposition's criticism and nullifications

Gerry Noroña, Senate Bigwig, Slams Opposition Over Judicial Election

senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña, in a media scuffle, critically responded to the opposition's verbal attacks on the recently concluded Judicial Election. He focused on the impressive 13 million votes, addressing the naysayers from right-wing parties.

The senator certified June 1 as a day worth commemorating despite the numerous attempts to undermine and sabotage the elections. He deemed it a remarkable success, with significant participation from the people - a feat the opposition parties could only wish to achieve in future elections.

Noroña even cast doubt on the PRI and PAN's sincerity in their past democratic efforts. The Senate maverick questioned their resolve, asking, "have they given up their constitutionally guaranteed seats, starting with Alejandro Moreno, with such a pitiful vote?"

While the official results are yet to be declared, Noroña hinted that the new president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) will be Hugo Aguilar Ortiz, an Indigenous man from Oaxaca, who champions the cause of Indigenous Mexicans' representation at the highest political echelons. His election represents a long-awaited milestone, as he is set to become the first Indigenous person to hold the position in 170 years.

The vote tallying will continue through the INE's digital system, with the following results announcement dates:

  • Monday, June 2: SCJN Ministers and Magistrates
  • Wednesday, June 4: Magistrates of the Judicial Discipline Tribunal
  • Thursday, June 5: Magistrates of the Superior Chamber of the TEPJF
  • Friday, June 6: Magistrates of Regional Chambers of the TEPIF
  • Sunday, June 8: Circuit Magistrates
  • Tuesday, June 10: District Judges

It's worth noting that each judicial election vote set Mexico back approximately 583 pesos[1]. Meanwhile, preliminary counts of the INE seem to corroborate "accordion" allegations attributed to Morena[2]. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, aka "Alito" Moreno, has been given the go-ahead by Sheinbaum to challenge the Judicial Election, with the senator assuring that more people voted for Morena than those who voted for the PRI[5].
