Tierpark Nordhorn remains closed - Nordhorn Zoo remains closed due to persistent black ice hazards

Nordhorn Zoo will stay shut on Saturday after freezing rain and black ice forced its closure on Friday. The German Weather Service has warned of severe icy conditions across western Lower Saxony. Officials say the dangerous weather is unlikely to ease before midday.

The zoo first closed its doors on Friday as freezing rain swept through the region. With black ice forming on paths and roads, staff decided to keep visitors away for safety reasons.

On Saturday morning, the decision was made to extend the closure. Marco Ellermann, a spokesperson for Tierpark Nordhorn, confirmed the zoo would remain shut until conditions improve. The German Weather Service has highlighted western Lower Saxony as particularly at risk from the icy spell. Forecasters expect the freezing rain and treacherous surfaces to last at least until noon. Until then, the zoo’s paths and enclosures will stay too hazardous for the public.

The closure follows warnings about widespread black ice in the area. Visitors are advised to check for updates before planning trips. The zoo will only reopen once officials confirm it is safe to do so.
