Bookwood Festival Returns to Nordhausen for a Metal-Filled Weekend
The small town of Nordhausen, Germany, is gearing up for a heavy metal extravaganza as the Bookwood Festival prepares to take over the Kromberg on September 5th and 6th. This annual event, organised by the Nordhausen-based association "Metal Foundation Südharz", has grown significantly since its humble beginnings as a rock night at the Buchholz village festival.
This year, the festival promises a star-studded lineup, with headliners Grave Digger and Kingslayers from Hungary set to take the stage. Grave Digger, a German heavy metal band that has been around since 1980, will be performing on the Friday evening, while Kingslayers will close out the festival on the Saturday. The Hungarian band is bringing the only European tribute show of British hardcore band "Bring me the horizon" to Nordhausen.
The Luchs Distillery, run by Thomas Schneider, is a festival partner for Bookwood, and will be offering a special edition "Bookwoodnebel" gin and liqueur product for the occasion. Schneider has been running his distillery in Bochumer Straße, Nordhausen, since 2017. Another crucial partner in the festival's success is the Buchholz agricultural operation, one of the founding partners.
Sponsors play a vital role in the festival's operations, and ticket sales are going exceptionally well, nearing sell-out. There are day tickets and weekend passes available for those who wish to attend. However, due to capacity limits, box office sales may not be possible this time around.
Florian Michel, one of the organisers, is excited about the festival's growth and expects an attendance of 800 this year. The festival will feature 15 bands over the two days, with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.
Grave Digger is on a jubilee tour to celebrate their 45th anniversary, and the Bookwood Festival is one of their tour stops in Thuringia. After their appearance at Wacken, Grave Digger is coming to Nordhausen, making it the only tour stop in Thuringia for the heavy metal legends.
