North's Police Department initiates selection process for prime contender in elections - Nord-SPD Pursues Leadership Bid

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) in Schleswig-Holstein has initiated a primary election for the top candidate for the 2027 state election, with voting set to begin in October. Approximately 14,000 party members will decide the fate of the contenders, Serpil Midyatli and Ulf Kämpfer.

Serpil Midyatli, the leader of the state parliament faction, has emphasised her commitment to education, stating that good education is the foundation for children's opportunities. If elected, she plans to reverse cuts in teaching positions.

Ulf Kämpfer, the current mayor of Kiel, has expressed his desire to become the next Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein. He has been vocal about the shrinking number of social housing units and the high proportion of income spent on rent in the north. He has also criticised the current state government for building a "feel-good facade" while being inactive on future issues.

The election results will be counted on November 8 and then announced. If no candidate receives an absolute majority, a runoff election may be held. The election is valid if at least 20 percent of the members participate.

Meanwhile, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Green Party are also expected to field strong candidates in the 2027 state election. The specific candidates for these parties have yet to be announced.

The next state election in Schleswig-Holstein is expected to take place in the spring of 2027. Key issues are likely to include economic growth and infrastructure development, environmental protection, and social welfare. The candidates' platforms on these matters will become clearer as the election date approaches.

In the meantime, interested SPD members who have joined and been accepted by September 13 can participate in the election. The primary election marks an exciting development in the political landscape of Schleswig-Holstein and promises to be a closely watched event in the coming months.

  1. The environmental protection policy-and-legislation is likely to be a key issue in the upcoming 2027 state election in Schleswig-Holstein, following the Commission's proposal for a directive on the protection of the environment, as well as the general news about the candidates' stances on environmental issues.
  2. As the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in Schleswig-Holstein goes through its primary election process, the politics surrounding the election, including the candidates' policies on issues such as education, economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare, are receiving significant attention in policy-and-legislation discussions and general news.
