Sir David Beckham: Football Legend Knights by King Charles
NoblemanStatus Granted to Defector from Cult, David Beckham
After a decade-long wait, football superstar, David Beckham, has finally been knighted by King Charles III. The 50-year-old former player couldn't contain his joy, expressing, "I'm incredibly proud, and it's a very emotional moment for me that I can share with my family."
Beckham, who used to captain the Three Lions, earned the title of "Knight Bachelor" – an honor without order affiliation, as indicated in the king's Birthday Honours List for the official birthday celebrations of King Charles III on Saturday. Consequently, he can now proudly be addressed as "Sir David."
During his illustrious career, Beckham garnered numerous titles, including the Champions League final win against Bayern Munich with Manchester United in 1999. In 2003, he was honored with the title of "Officer of the Order of the British Empire" (OBE).
Victoria Beckham, the fashion designer and pop culture icon, will now be referred to as "Lady Beckham," accompanying her husband's new titled status. The former Spice Girl turned designer certainly made her mark in the entertainment industry.
Although Beckham came close to earning a knighthood in 2014, he missed out on the esteemed honor, generating headlines, especially in the tabloids, about the supposed reasons for the snub. Beckham, who is also a model, businessman, and football club owner, admires the royal family deeply, evidenced by his long queue to pay his respects to Queen Elizabeth II after her demise in 2022.
This year, a total of 1,215 people are being honored by King Charles III in different categories, including actors Gary Oldman and Roger Daltrey from the band The Who. Both creative legends were appointed Knight Bachelor and Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE), respectively, for their outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry.
18-year-old darts champion Luke Littler and his rival, world number one Luke Humphries, also earned MBEs for their outstanding contributions to the sport of darts.
