Noah Dettwiler heads home after surviving a terrifying plane crash in Malaysia

Noah Dettwiler, the Moto3 racer, is set to return home to Switzerland after a serious plane crash in Malaysia. The young rider suffered severe injuries, including an open leg fracture and lung contusions, during the warm-up lap in Sepang. After regaining consciousness and leaving intensive care, Dettwiler is now cleared for medical repatriation.

Dettwiler's journey back to Switzerland will involve further medical procedures. Doctors in Kuala Lumpur have approved his repatriation, and he is scheduled to fly home on Thursday. Upon arrival, he will undergo the remaining surgery on his leg. This comes after doctors in Malaysia removed his spleen to stop severe internal bleeding. Additionally, further X-rays have revealed a neck injury, which will also require attention.

The exact clinic for Dettwiler's rehabilitation and the subsequent surgery has not been decided yet. It is still uncertain whether the surgery will take place in Malaysia or after his return to Switzerland. Following the surgery, Dettwiler will begin a rehabilitation phase to aid his recovery.

Noah Dettwiler's return to Switzerland marks a significant step in his recovery. Despite the severity of his injuries, including cardiac arrests during the crash, he is no longer in life-threatening condition. His medical team will continue to monitor and treat his injuries, with the aim of aiding his full recovery.
