Dresden's prestigious boys' choir, the Kreuzchor, can breathe easy after Dresden city council reached a new contract with the Evangelical-Lutheran parish of Johannes-Kreuz-Lukas, averting the contract's termination.

Dresden - The city council had originally planned to terminate the agreement over the usage of the Kreuzkirche by the Kreuzchor on a Thursday. However, the parties involved somehow managed to iron out their differences beforehand, leading to the agenda item's sudden removal.

The new deal involves a "financial adjustment in several steps and further contract changes," as per a declaration of intent signed by the parish.

The disagreement centered around the city pressing for a more substantial contribution from the parish to the choir's financing. The parish's contribution currently amounts to just 2% (€97,000) of the total expenditure in comparison to 8% (€370,000) from parent contributions.

"Given the centuries-old collaboration between the Dresden Kreuzchor and Kreuzkirche, I'm thrilled that a consensus has been reached between the two institutions," says Dresden's Lord Mayor, Dirk Hilbert (53, FDP).

Kreuzchor not only charms Dresden's citizens but also represents the city in its cultural and artistic ventures. The new deal helps secure its future, setting the stage for its continued success. The agreement typically involves multi-year funding commitments and provisions for infrastructure improvements, outreach programs, and collaboration with other cultural institutions in Dresden.
