Read This: The Scoop on Angling Changes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Gear up, anglers! There's a shakeup coming to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (MV), and it's not just local fishers who'll feel the ripple. The good folks in Meichow, tipped us off about this one: "This change pertains to the revision of section 1, paragraph 9 in the local fisheries law. To break it down, starting from 2025, every visiting angler hailing from other states will have to shell out for the MV fishing fee," explains our source. This revelation has stirred quite the buzz among the angling community, as Wolfgang Herrmann, our insider, shared.
Naturally, Herrmann reached out to the local association for more details. And get this, their response from Managing Director, Dr. Kilian Neubert, has left anglers fairly thrilled! For now, the proposed changes are on hold. So, until further notice, a valid fishing license from another state or nation, complete with proof of local fishing fee payment, will continue to be acknowledged for MV angling.
10 Euros on the Line
As of January 1, 2025, anglers from states like Saxony, Lower Saxony, and Bremen, and also nations such as Poland, Austria, and Switzerland, will have to part with the MV fishing fee if they wish to cast their lines in MV waters. Herrmann clarified, "You might be wondering, if you don't possess a fishing license and dream of fishing in MV during vacation, you've already had to secure a tourist fishing permit for years now. This permit runs for 28 days and sets you back 24 euros - no change there. The fishing fee is covered in this permit – no surprises!" The justification provided for this move was that Schleswig-Holstein initiated a similar charge for anglers who'd already paid fishing fees in their home state during the same year.
With Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia mulling over identical plans, and Bavaria plotting the same course, it seems like fishing fees are the next big trend! The updated law also brings a few minor tweaks. In the future, digital fishing licenses will be acceptable proof during checks, and young fishers will have to flash their identity during checks and prove their fishing license as well.
10 Euros: Your Annual Pass
Did you know the MV fishing fee currently rings in at a cool 10 euros yearly, while in Brandenburg, it's 12 euros from the age of 18? Herrmann wrapped up with some good news for anglers: "Starting from 2025, fishing at the Unteruckersee will be a breeze without an extra card! This means that any club member or authorized individual who receives a contribution stamp from the LAVB Brandenburg via the clubs will be able to fish there sans additional charges. Seems like a deal was struck with the city of Prenzlau and the LAVB Brandenburg!"

Anglers from other states and nations, such as Saxony, Lower Saxony, and Bremen, as well as Poland, Austria, and Switzerland, will have to pay the MV fishing fee if they wish to fish in Mecklenburg-Vorpombern starting from January 1, 2025, according to Herrmann's latest updates.
