No Contribution Increase for AOK Insured - No Contribution Increase for AOK Insured
AOK Plus has confirmed that its members in Saxony and Thuringia will see no rise in health insurance costs next year. The supplementary premium will stay at 3.1% for 2026, keeping contributions stable. The insurer, which covers over half of all statutory policyholders in the two states, also unveiled its budget for the coming year.
The organisation’s 2026 financial plan totals €23.55 billion. Of this, €18.51 billion will fund health insurance, while €4.44 billion is set aside for long-term care. Members currently pay a combined contribution of 14.6%, split between employees and employers, plus the 3.1% supplement.
AOK Plus serves more than 3.5 million people across Saxony and Thuringia. This accounts for 57% of all statutory health insurance policyholders in the region. Meanwhile, the pension sector has also seen changes, with Deutsche Rentenversicherung Mitteldeutschland now holding the largest share of pension customers in the area. The institution was formed by merging the regional insurance bodies of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia under the DRV framework.
Sven Nobereit, who leads the employers’ delegation on the supervisory board, has pushed for deeper reforms. He argued that real structural changes in the healthcare system must start in 2026 to address long-term challenges.
The decision to freeze the supplementary premium means no extra costs for AOK Plus members next year. With a budget of €23.55 billion, the insurer will continue covering health and care services for millions in the region. The call for structural reforms suggests further discussions on healthcare funding may follow.
