With a close eye on the rivals, the Billy Goats of 1. FC Cologne await the results of today's matches. SV Elversberg and SC Paderborn aim for wins against Eintracht Braunschweig and 1. FC Magdeburg respectively, jeopardizing Cologne's hopes of a Bundesliga comeback. Magdeburg's promotion dreams, however, seem to fade.

SV Elversberg - Eintracht Braunschweig 3:0 (3:0)

Steffen's dynamic team, SV Elversberg, keeps pounding on the Bundesliga door. They outmuscled Eintracht Braunschweig 3-0 in their penultimate Second Division match, cementing a spot in the promotion playoffs. A victory against Schalke 04 in their upcoming game could clinch direct promotion to the top tier.

Fisnik Asllani (11') and Muhammed Damar (18', 21') notched the points for the hosts, who extended their winning streak to seven games. Braunschweig's loss pushed them down to the relegation playoff spot.

Elversberg began powerfully, with Asllani, on loan from Bundesliga team TSG Hoffenheim, slotting in his 18th goal of the season. Damar capitalized on the promising display by the promotion contenders. Asllani (29'), Tom Zimmerschied (33'), and Lukas Petkov (45'+1) all squandered additional opportunities before the break.

The second half saw Elversberg dominate but poor finishing let them down. Braunschweig offered little going forward.

SC Paderborn 07 - 1. FC Magdeburg 2:1 (1:1)

Paderborn exhibited tough resolve in the promotion race, and their dreams of a Bundesliga return linger. In a tight match against 1. FC Magdeburg, Paderborn won 2-1, extinguishing Magdeburg's promotion hopes. Calvin Brackelmann (41') and Felix Goetz (61') scored the crucial goals, following Magdeburg's early lead from Martijn Kaars' penalty (15').

Facing Karlsruhe in their final matchday, Paderborn remains hopeful but relies on slip-ups from competitors. SV Elversberg sits third, with a better goal difference, while Cologne maintains a three-point lead but inferior goal difference. Hamburg SV can clinch promotion with a win against SSV Ulm (20:30 CET, live on Sky, Sport1, and ntv.de).

Paderborn initially struggled under the weight of pressure in the tight promotion race, with FCM dominating the early stages and being rewarded with an early penalty. After approximately 30 minutes, however, Paderborn took control, created chances, and netted the equalizer through defender Brackelmann. Paderborn remained relentless after the break, with another defender, Goetz, sealing the win after a corner.
