Nizhny Novgorod's theatre awards to honor local stars tonight

Nizhny Novgorod is set to host its annual theatre awards ceremony this evening. The event will recognise local talent across multiple acting categories, with both professional and audience juries involved in the selection process.

Support for the ceremony comes from the city administration and the regional branch of Opora Rossii, a national business association.

The awards will cover a range of categories, including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress. A special Double prize will also be presented, though details on its criteria remain unspecified.

Young performers will compete for the Rising Star award, designed to highlight the most promising new talent. Meanwhile, the audience jury has chosen its own winners in separate categories: Favorite Actress, Favorite Actor, and Favorite Comic Character. An additional New Year's Special Forces award will acknowledge actors who demonstrated particular dedication during the holiday season. The ceremony begins at 6:00 PM, with key figures in attendance. Sergei Gorin, Director of the City Culture Department, and Dmitry Birman, Chairman of Opora Rossii's Nizhny Novgorod branch, will both be present. Unlike national film or opera awards held in Moscow, this event focuses solely on the city's theatre scene. Organisers noted that no specific details about winners in the Best Actress or Best Lead Role categories were available in advance, as the results are drawn exclusively from local theatre productions rather than broader regional or national competitions.

The ceremony will bring together actors, directors, and city officials to celebrate Nizhny Novgorod's theatrical achievements. Winners in each category will be announced during the event, with recognition coming from both industry professionals and public voters. The awards aim to highlight the city's cultural contributions and encourage further growth in its performing arts community.
