Nizhny Novgorod's Eastern Bypass Highway Clears Key Hurdle for 2023 Start
Plans for the Eastern Bypass highway in Nizhny Novgorod have moved forward after state experts approved the preparatory phase. The project, set to be built in three stages, will include a bridge over the Volga River. Officials expect to sign a concession agreement by 2023 to begin construction soon after. The Nizhny Novgorod Region's Main Directorate of Highways oversaw the project's development. Two private companies, JSC DSC Avtoban and LLC Institute of Construction and Design, prepared the necessary documentation. Their work passed the state expertise review, clearing the way for the next steps.
Private investors have already proposed concession initiatives for all three phases. The first covers the initial section, while the second and third include the Volga River bridge. Once fully built, the bypass will run from the Grebnoi Canal Embankment to the federal M-7 highway in Kstovo District. Construction of the entire 5-7 year project will begin once the concession deal is finalised. The timeline depends on securing funding and completing regulatory approvals.
The Eastern Bypass will improve transport links between Nizhny Novgorod and the M-7 highway. With state approval secured and private bids submitted, the project now awaits the 2023 concession signing. Full completion is expected within five to seven years of breaking ground.
