Nizhny Novgorod resident, Svetlana Toropova, emerges victorious in the contest
The III Cup of the Head of the City in show jumping took place at the equestrian sports complex "Passage" in Nizhny Novgorod on August 6, 2025. This traditional sporting event attracts more participants and spectators each year, strengthening the position of equestrian sports in the Volga Federal District, as reported by the city's department of physical culture and sports.
This year's competition saw participants from six Russian regions, including the Nizhny Novgorod region, Vladimir and Ivanovo regions, Mordovia, Chuvashia, Tatarstan, and other regions. Five horse-rider pairs participated, four of which were from the Nizhny Novgorod region.
The main event concluded with an exciting Jump and Agility show, which combined elements of equestrian sports and canine expertise. The highlight of the show was Svetlana Toropova and her horse Chaser Larry, who won the Cup of the Head of Nizhny Novgorod with a time of 32.63 seconds in the final round.
Svetlana Toropova, a prominent figure in the world of show jumping, is known for her skill, dedication, and accomplishments in the sport. Originally, she planned to compete on another horse, Vicomte, but he had a minor injury. Toropova and Chaser Larry have already achieved a lot and set a high bar in their competition career. Chaser Larry, who is eight years old, has not yet reached his peak in his career.
Despite limited public information on Toropova's entire career compared to more widely covered athletes, her competitive career spans numerous national and international show jumping competitions, representing her country and consistently performing at a high level. She has earned recognition for her technical proficiency, agility, and partnership with her horses, securing podium finishes in various events. Toropova is praised for her calm and strategic approach during competitions, which contributes significantly to her success in navigating challenging show jumping courses.
Anton Ermakov, director of the department of physical culture and sports, stated that they hope for more participants in the future. Only two local athletes completed the main distance without penalty points: Svetlana Toropova on Chaser Larry and Valeria Kravchuk on Glitter and Glamour. The Jump and Agility show involved riders passing a relay baton to dog handlers with dogs.
The "Grand Prix" course at the Head of Nizhny Novgorod competition featured obstacles at 130 cm. The III Cup of the Head of the City in show jumping continues to develop equestrian sports, with more and more children discovering their talents through the tournament. As the tournament grows, they plan to include athletes from twin cities in future competitions.
Svetlana Toropova, renowned for her achievements in sports, especially in show jumping, was forced to change her competition horse due to Vicomte's minor injury. Despite this setback, she managed to win the Cup of the Head of Nizhny Novgorod with her alternate horse, Chaser Larry.
The Jump and Agility show, a combination of equestrian sports and canine expertise, is an integral part of the III Cup of the Head of the City in show jumping, attracting more participants each year and promoting the growth of sports in the Volga Federal District.
