Nizhny Novgorod braces for extreme winter storms and power risks

The Nizhny Novgorod region is preparing for severe winter weather in the coming days. Forecasters warn of heavy snow, freezing rain, and strong northerly winds reaching up to 17 metres per second. In response, local energy providers have stepped up preparations to prevent power disruptions.

Rosseti Centre and Volga Region's subsidiary, Nizhnovenergo, has activated a heightened state of alert. The move comes as meteorologists predict hazardous weather conditions that could damage power lines and infrastructure.

To handle potential outages, the company has deployed 135 repair crews across the region. These teams include 619 specialists backed by 326 units of specialised equipment. Their task is to restore electricity quickly if storms cause interruptions.

Power engineers are now closely tracking supply networks. The focus remains on ensuring households and businesses receive uninterrupted service despite the extreme weather.

The repair operation involves hundreds of workers and dozens of vehicles ready to respond at short notice. Nizhnovenergo's preparations aim to minimise downtime for residents and critical services. Officials continue to monitor the situation as the storm approaches.
