Nizhny Novgorod battles record snowfall with massive cleanup operation

Nizhny Novgorod is grappling with heavy snowfall, with over 50 centimetres of snow blanketing the city in just three days. More than 3,500 road workers and street cleaners are now laboring non-stop to clear the snow from streets and highways, ensuring that the city remains accessible and safe for its residents. The city's response to the snowstorm includes a large fleet of vehicles, with over 1,350 machines such as road graders, skid-steer loaders, and tractors operating across different areas. Workers are prioritizing the clearing of major routes to maintain traffic flow and safety. The city administration's press service has shared photos and videos of the ongoing efforts, showcasing crews removing snow in shifts to minimize disruptions to daily life. Despite the magnitude of the operation, no single official has been named as overseeing the work. The snowfall has presented significant challenges for Nizhny Novgorod, with vehicles and workers deployed around the clock to restore normal conditions as quickly as possible. The operation will continue until all key routes are fully cleared.
