Nissan's March sales surge as Gravite MPV drives market recovery

Nissan saw a notable improvement in domestic sales during March. The company's latest monthly report highlights a recovery in volumes, driven by strong demand for its latest models.

The growth comes as part of a broader push to strengthen Nissan's position in India's competitive passenger vehicle market. The increase in sales was largely supported by the launch of the Gravite MPV. Since its introduction in early 2026, deliveries have ramped up quickly, with over 5,000 units sold monthly by March. This surge helped lift Nissan's market share from under 1% to roughly 1.2-1.5%.

The Gravite forms a key part of Nissan's product strategy for the region. Alongside the continued popularity of the Magnite, the new models have contributed to higher overall volumes. Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, acknowledged the positive response to these vehicles.

Despite the gains, Nissan still lags behind major rivals. Tata holds around 15% of the market, while Maruti Suzuki dominates with over 40%. Hyundai also maintains a strong lead, with 13-14% share, particularly in SUVs and hatchbacks. The Gravite's early success and steady demand for the Magnite suggest a more stable footing for Nissan in India. While the brand remains far behind top competitors, the recent sales uptick points to gradual progress. Future performance will depend on sustaining this momentum in a crowded market.
