Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Tournament Is Currently Underway

The Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition has made its way to the Nintendo Switch, offering a thrilling experience for Nintendo Switch Online members. This special edition, part of the service's offerings, includes a collection of retro games and exclusive content.

To participate, players must have a valid Nintendo Switch Online membership. The game features three single-player modes: Speedrun Mode, World Championships Mode, and Survival Mode, as well as a multiplayer Party Mode and an unlockable Legendary Trial.

Speedrun Mode presents 156 challenges, with 66 dedicated to *Super Mario* games. These challenges require players to complete specific actions in NES games as fast as possible, such as collecting items, reaching goals, or defeating enemies. The World Championships Mode replicates the original Nintendo World Championships experience, while Survival Mode offers a unique challenge.

The challenges in the game have a difficulty rating from one to five stars, with no two-star challenges. Players receive a letter rank based on their completion speed, and a timer is displayed throughout the game. If a player fails a challenge, the game features an automatic rewind, allowing for retry without restarting.

The Legend difficulty challenges are particularly demanding, requiring mastery and precise execution. Time management is critical since the timer does not stop even if the player is rewinding and retrying. Players must adapt to various NES games and mechanics since the collection of challenges spans multiple titles.

Online multiplayer challenges in Party Mode test players against others, adding competitive pressure. Players can view demo videos, replays of their personal best, and for Legend difficulty challenges, "classified information" guides to help complete the challenge. The game provides feedback on button inputs and player profiles during gameplay.

The main challenge lies in completing speedrun-style tasks within classic NES games very quickly and efficiently. The competition will run until April 21, 2023, and Nintendo Switch Online members can participate in Competition #40 of the Nintendo World Championships: NESTM Edition. Participants can watch replays of the top runs for each challenge and check their ranking in last week's competition.

Each challenge is from a different game: MetroidTM, ExcitebikeTM, Super Mario BrosTM, Super Mario Bros. 3TM, and Super Mario Bros. 2TM. Players have the opportunity to showcase their skills in these challenges, making it an exciting event for all participants.

Mild Fantasy Violence is present in the game. Nintendo Account and Nintendo Switch Online membership are required for online features. In-Game Purchases are not mentioned in this paragraph.
