Let's Get Down to Business

Fans held their breath as the NU Lady Bulldogs pulled off a nail-biting 78-75 victory against the UST Tigresses, securing their phenomenal run in the UAAP women's basketball tournament.

The Tigresses put up a valiant fight, cutting the lead to four points with a spectacular 8-1 run in the dying minutes of the game, courtesy of Nikki Villasin's triple off a timeout. But Aloha Betanio and Camille Clarin took over the game, splitting free-throws and sinking crucial baskets to keep the Lady Bulldogs ahead.

Tacky Tacatac's deep three-pointer narrowed the deficit yet again, leaving a narrow margin for the Lady Bulldogs. Angel Surada stepped up to the line, making the first free throw to keep the Tigresses at bay. However, she missed the second, giving UST a glimmer of hope. But joy turned to despair as Joylyn Pangilinan's off-balance heave fell short, sealing victory for the NU Lady Bulldogs.

Coach Aris Dimaunahan praised his team, "UST came guns blazing. But my girls showed great composure in the face of adversity and managed to secure the win."

Ann Pingol led the scoring for NU with 14 points, while Clarin chipped in with 13 points and 6 assists. Surada was a force in the decisive moments, scoring 11 points.

UST's Eka Soriano flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists. Tacatac also added 18 points, while Pangilinan got 12.

The NU Lady Bulldogs will go for history when they aim to reach the elusive 100th win against UP on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the La Salle Lady Archers outlasted their archrivals, Ateneo Blue Eagles, in another thrilling match, 75-67. Lee Sario led the scoring for the Lady Archers with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Charmine Torres had 10 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals.

The Blue Eagles slumped to 1-2, joining Far Eastern University and Adamson in the standings.
