Chemnitz - Get ready for some big changes in the Niners Chemnitz roster! We're saying goodbye to Olivier Nkamhoua, Jacob Gilyard, and Damien Jefferson.
After Nicholas Tischler made a surprising exit to league rival Oldenburg, the basketball Bundesliga team is parting ways with these talented athletes. Nkamhoua, who joined the team back in August 2024, played in all 45 competitive games for the "Orange Army." Gilyard and Jefferson joined the team more recently in February.
The Niners have issued some strong words about the departing players: "While these players showcased their skills at times, they didn't consistently impress us enough for contract renewals."
Prepare for Some New Faces! In an exciting turn of events, the Niners have announced that they'll be welcoming "exciting new players" to the team in the near future.
Kostja Mushidi (26) and Ty Brewer (25) are the first names added to the roster. Mushidi is joining us from BG Göttingen, and Brewer from Mitteldeutscher BC. Brewer shone last season with Weißenfels, leading the team to win the cup and make it to the playoffs.
Jefferson Fell Short of Aher Uguak's Legacy
The team was particularly critical of the departing players on their official website. "Nkamhoua had impressive offensive skills at the start of the season, but defense was an area for improvement. He also lacked consistency at times. With an average of 11 points and 5 rebounds in just 21 minutes per game, Nkamhoua demonstrated potential for a successful career in Europe."
Gilyard, who boasts NBA experience, seemed like a savior upon his arrival in February but was ultimately too vulnerable on defense for contract renewal. Jefferson, who replaced the injured Canadian Aher Uguak (27), also didn't live up to expectations, averaging 4.5 points and 2.2 rebounds.
However, it's essential to note that Nkamhoua, Gilyard, and Jefferson were part of a team that struggled to find its footing at times, which may have impacted individual performances.
