The U5 subway line between Tierpark and Hönow boasts nine stations that have earned a preservation order. These historical gems include Tierpark, Biesdorf-Süd, Elsterwerdaer Platz, Wuhletal, Kaulsdorf-Nord, Cottbusser Platz, Hellersdorf, Louis-Lewin-Straße, and Hönow. Established by East Berlin's chief architect, Roland Korn, this line, opened between 1969 and 1989, aimed to connect the burgeoning residential areas of Hellersdorf.

These stations are a captivating time capsule for history buffs, offering an intriguing glimpse into the GDR era. Their preservation is crucial for maintaining the rich tapestry of Berlin's architectural heritage and urban history.

Despite the heavy footfall in the area, these listed buildings provide a serene retreat for visitors.

The Tierpark station, with its unique naturalistic architecture, harmoniously fits into the lush surroundings of the Berlin Zoo and Tierpark. Biesdorf and Biesdorf-Süd, opened in 1990, boast a modern, minimalist design that's functional and aesthetically pleasing, blending seamlessly into their urban surroundings.

Kaulsdorf Station, a 1990 addition, reflects the modern urban development of Kaulsdorf. Kaulsdorf-Nord, another 1990 station, is known for its contemporary design, while Mahlsdorf Station captures the essence of its location with its modern design elements.

Marzahn-Hellersdorf Station, also opened in 1990, contributes to the urban fabric of its district. Görlitzer Bahn Station, though not an U5 station, is historically significant as it was part of the original Berlin S-Bahn network. Lastly, Hönow Station is a modern marvel that complements its surroundings in Hönow.

These stations' preservation signifies their historical significance as they form part of the U5 line extension, symbolizing the city’s post-reunification urban planning efforts. Furthermore, their modern architectural designs and seamless integration with their surroundings illustrate the shift toward contemporary urban planning principles.
