Nighttime bombardment in Sumy Oblast, Ukraine: A single fatality and two injuries result from Russian-launched guided aerial bombs – visual evidence available, video footage obtained
In the wee hours of May 8, a breach of peace unfolded in Sumy Oblast, Ukraine. Despite the so-called "three-day truce" declared by Russian authorities, unprovoked guided aerial bomb attacks left one person dead and several others injured.
According to reports from the Sumy Oblast Prosecutor's Office and the State Emergency Service, a 55-year-old woman was killed and her 24-year-old son injured when a guided bomb was dropped on residential houses in Mykolaivka around 3 am. Less than an hour later, another bomb struck civilian infrastructure in Vorozhba, injuring a 70-year-old woman.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding this tragic incident. As the darkness lifted, the State Emergency Service reported that the Russians conducted airstrikes on the territory of the Bilopillia hromada in the morning, completely destroying one residential building and damaging several more.
The aftermath of the attacks left a woman trapped under the rubble, but rescue workers managed to free her and hand her over to paramedics. Fires also erupted in three residential buildings as a result of the bombings. Unfortunately, one civilian lost their life in this senseless violence.
To add insult to injury, these attacks occurred while the Ukrainian Air Force reported that the Russians had intensified tactical aviation strikes using guided aerial bombs in Sumy Oblast the previous night. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had announced that Vladimir Putin's initiative to hold a three-day ceasefire for Victory Day remained in effect.
This disturbing chain of events underscores the despicable disregard for human life and international conventions by Russian forces in the region.
