Nigeria's Smoked Salmon Market Sees Surge in Imports and Production in 2024

Nigeria's smoked salmon market experienced significant changes in 2024. Despite a decline in salmon exports, imports and production surged, with consumption reaching peak levels.

Nigeria's smoked salmon exports decreased by X% to X kg in 2024, marking the second consecutive year of decline after two years of growth. However, the value of these salmon exports remained significant at $X, indicating a 25% increase from the previous year. South Africa was the primary destination for Nigerian smoked salmon, accounting for a X% share of total exports.

On the import side, Nigeria saw a sharp decrease of X% to X kg in 2024, a stark contrast to the peak in 2012. Despite this, the value of salmon imports surged to $X, reflecting a strong increase in consumption. The main suppliers were Norway, China, and France, together accounting for X% of total imports. The average import price per ton reached $X, indicating substantial growth.

Nigeria's smoked salmon production soared to $X in 2024, reflecting resilient growth and attaining peak levels. The overall market size increased by X% to $X, rising for the ninth consecutive year after two years of decline.

While smoked salmon exports from Nigeria decreased in 2024, imports and production surged, leading to a significant increase in consumption. The market is expected to continue growing in the immediate term, with South Africa remaining the primary salmon export destination and Norway, China, and France the main suppliers.
