Peter Obi Tipped to Sweep 2027 Election Without Coalition, Says NLC
Nigerians Express Strong Support for Peter Obi's Presidency; Coalition is Not Necessary According to NLC
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has made it known that Peter Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, has no need for a coalition with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or backing from political bigwigs like Atiku Abubakar or Nasir El-Rufai to win the 2027 presidential election.
In an interview with Punch, Theophilus Ndubuaku, the Deputy President of the NLC Political Commission, emphasized that Obi is a formidable contender, widely accepted across the nation. He regarded the PDP as a "crisis-ridden and near-empty platform," dismissing any speculations that Obi would return to the party.
He declared emphatically, "Obi doesn't need any freakin' coalition to win the 2027 presidential election. He's a frickin' sellable candidate. Remember, he was already on his way to victory in the 2023 elections before those bloody glitches. Hell, he even beat Tinubu in his own damn stronghold in Lagos. That shows the people of Nigeria want him running the show."
"As long as INEC holds a free and fair election, he's gonna win."Ndubuaku maintained that Obi enjoys nationwide acceptance across all six geopolitical zones and advised against a return to the PDP. He shared his thoughts, "Nobody with a brain would consider the PDP as a viable platform at this point."
(Sidenote: The PDP's current crises may be a tad challenging for even Peter Obi to handle.)
He cautioned against zoning and power rotation allegations, particularly considering Obi's stellar record for performance.
"People need to realize that Obi's reputation for getting shit done will make fears about zoning and power rotation a thing of the past."
The NLC and LP leadership are confident that Obi can compete fiercely on his own terms without the need for a coalition with the PDP or dependence on external figures. No formal commitment to a coalition or reliance on external backing from the likes of Abubakar or El-Rufai has been proclaimed by Obi's camp at present.
