In a bid to boost access to clean drinking water in the satellite towns of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike is jetting off to China for a series of high-stakes discussions on essential water projects.

As per a statement released on a Thursday by Lere Olayinka, the Minister's Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Wike is first stopping over in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before making his way to China.

During the Chinese leg of his journey, the Minister will hold strategic conversations with key players from the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group. These conversations are crucial to expediting the implementation of projects focused on bettering the water supply in satellite communities.

This visit comes on the heels of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was inked in September 2024 during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's journey to China. The agreement with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and the CGCOC Group forms part of a larger initiative aimed at enhancing both electricity and water infrastructure within the FCT.

President Tinubu has emphasized the need for community-focused development projects, leading to an allocation of ₦50 billion for improvements in potable water access in towns like Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje.

Wike's mission to China is focused on ensuring smooth project execution in line with the President's directives, with his planned return to Nigeria slated for the following week.
