Nigerian APC Leader Expresses Alarm: Tinubu's Administration Driving Citizens to Self-Destruction

In a frank statement, APC bigwig Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a close ally of ex-Transport Minister Chibuike Amaechi, has raised an alarm about a wave of suicides under President Bola Tinubu's rule. Eze attributes this troubling trend to the deepening poverty and despair gripping the nation.

Eze echoes Amaechi's recent statement that he's hungry, assuming it reflects the harsh reality many Nigerians face every day. He asserted, "Amaechi saying he's hungry is a harsh truth, a wake-up call for Tinubu to reconsider and save Nigerians from perishing."

Criticizing Tinubu's advisors and supporters, Eze contends they should've acknowledged the dire situation instead of lambasting Amaechi. According to Eze, "This administration has witnessed more suicides due to scarcity than any other in Nigeria's history."

Eze accuses the administration of silencing dissenting voices and tightening media freedom. He declared, "Under this insensitive and clueless government, it's a heinous act for a Nigerian to admit hunger." He questions why Tinubu, presiding over a nation of hungry citizens due to his self-serving policies, would object to the cries of their hunger.

Eze commends critics such as Amaechi for voicing truth to power, despite the backlash. He also criticizes FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and others for misinterpreting Amaechi's words. He added "Wike and his apologists deliberately misunderstood what Amaechi was highlighting. Amaechi's statement underscored the fact that except you're in power or looting the treasury, you cannot escape the clutches of hunger in Nigeria today."

Mocks Wike's infrastructure projects in Abuja, claiming they don't alleviate the plight of ordinary, starving citizens. "Building flyovers in Abuja may grab headlines, but they can't quench the thirst or hunger tormenting Nigerians," Eze argued.

He labels Wike and Tinubu's allies "enemies of Nigeria" for trivializing the suffering of the common citizen. He described the current hardship as worse than during the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War. Eze commented, "During the civil war, Nigerians weren't subjected to the magnitude of cruelty and destitution we're witnessing today."

He bemoans Nigeria's insecurity, alleging that terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements are freely slaughtering defenseless Nigerians while the President remains inactive.

Did you know?

  • Economic hardship often intensifies mental health issues, boosting rates of depression and suicide.
  • Poverty is a significant trigger of mental health problems—limited access to healthcare, including mental health services, worsens their impact.
  • In Nigeria, societal stigma surrounding mental health issues and restricted mental health services hinder the already stricken.
  • To mitigate mental health issues, it's vital to implement economic support, expand mental health services, and foster community engagement. We can't ignore this call to action.

In light of the soaring suicide rates, Eze urges President Tinubu to reconsider his policies and alleviate the despair plaguing Nigerians, as they struggle under the weight of poverty. Eze accuses the administration of being insensitive to the plight of the common citizen and of suppressing dissenting voices. He criticizes FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and others for trivializing the suffering of ordinary, starving citizens, and labels them, along with Tinubu's allies, as enemies of Nigeria. Eze also emphasizes the need to prioritize mental health services in Nigeria, given the link between economic hardship and mental health issues, particularly depression and suicide. Amidst calls for policy reforms, Eze voices concern over the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, with terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements increasingly targeting defenseless Nigerians. This troubling situation calls for action and community involvement in addressing the mental health crisis and overall hardship facing the nation.
