Nigeria Needs an Alternative Option, Says Abba Moro, Mentioning PDP's Anticipated Return

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is gearing up for the 2027 elections, as Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South, Abba Moro, declares the party's readiness to regain power.

In a speech delivered at the 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP, Moro expressed the party's resolve to reassure Nigerians of its return, stating, "We believe that, given our current circumstances, it is an opportune time to line up activities that will re-assure members of the PDP, lovers of democracy, and the Nigerian people at large that the PDP is coming back."

The senator also addressed concerns over recent defections from the party, acknowledging the setbacks but emphasizing they do not dictate the party's future. He affirmed that the PDP remains the strongest political brand in Nigeria, with structures in every part of the country.

Moro reminded party members of the PDP's democratic roots, founded by visionaries without governors, presidents, or lawmakers, and urged them not to lose faith in the party's potential.

In terms of the PDP's ongoing internal reorganization and its strategy for coalition-building, Moro advocated for all efforts to be led by the party as a collective, rather than by individual politicians seeking personal agendas. This stance echoes the Senate Caucus' rejection of former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar's attempts to organize a coalition for his 2027 ambitions, unless it is party-driven rather than individualistic.

It's worth noting that the PDP Senate Caucus is committed to party unity and discipline, and regional endorsements of political rivals, such as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, are not the official position of the national PDP or its Senate Caucus.

As the 2027 Nigerian Senate election approaches, the PDP, under the leadership of Senator Abba Moro, is focused on solidifying its internal cohesion and adopting a unified approach to coalition-building. This strategy aims to place the party in a strong position to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and regain power.

  1. However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is also preparing for the 2027 elections, with Senate prosperities indicating their intention to strengthen their grip on power.
  2. In Abuja, the political capital of Nigeria, the general news is abuzz with discussions about the upcoming elections and the policies and legislation that the major parties will likely propose.
  3. The PDP has announced its intention to focus on policy-and-legislation that prioritizes the needs of the average Nigerian, in an effort to regain the trust and support of the people.
  4. Among the PDP members, there is a growing consensus that the party needs to present a unified front during the elections, with a strong focus on the reps (representatives) and Senate if they are to stand a chance against the ruling APC.
  5. Despite occasional defections, the PDP remains confident that its strong political brand and grassroots support will carry it through to success in 2027.
  6. As the pressure mounts, Nigerians watches with bated breath, eager to see how the PDP, under the leadership of Senator Abba Moro, will navigate the complexities of politics and emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.
