Nigel Farage declines participation in the Senedd election.
Rule 'em out, Nigel's ain't playing the Senedd game next year!
Yep, you heard it right, old Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, has said that he's not Welsh, and that's that. So don't expect to see him running for the 2023 Senedd election.
When asked about it, he told ITV Cymru Wales' Sharp End, "I'm not Welsh so it's not going to be me." He added that standing for the Senedd in such a cynical way wasn't his style.
Now, you might ask, can an MP stand for the Senedd, right? Well, technically yes, but if they win, they have to ditch their Westminster seat within eight days of their election.
Surprisingly, the rules for prospective members are also changing, so all candidates at next May's election must live in Wales.
So there you have it, folks. Nigel Farage has ruled himself out of the upcoming Senedd election. Will someone new rise to take his place? The votes will decide!
P.S. In case you were wondering, here's a quick run-down on the current poll numbers for the major parties:
- Plaid Cymru: 30%
- Reform UK: 25%
- Labour: 18%
- Conservatives: 13%
