Nia Long Discusses the Aftermath of Ime Udoka's Celtics Suspension

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Long addressed Udoka's suspension as the Celtics head coach due to allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a team staff member. The couple, engaged since 2015, has a 10-year-old son named Massai, and Long gave birth to Udoka's son, Kez, in 2021.

"Seeing my son's face when the Boston Celtics decided to make their personal situation public was heartbreaking," shared Long. "It was devastating, and it still is. He still has some moments that aren't easy for him."

Long revealed she had taken her son out of school during that time and refused to discuss their relationship status or address his behavior with reporters.

Udoka served a full suspension for the 2022-2023 season, expressing remorse for bringing his team and family into a challenging situation. In a statement to ESPN, he stated, "I want to apologize to our players, fans, the Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down... I'm sorry that I put the team in such a difficult position."

However, Long feels unsupported by the Celtics organization. "If your job is to protect women – I'm sorry, but no one from the Celtics called to ask how I or my baby were doing," she said, expressing her disappointment.

The woman involved in the alleged relationship was not identified.

The Celtics Organization's Stance

Brad Stevens, the Boston Celtics' president of basketball operations, expressed his support for the organization's female employees during a press conference, responding to the media speculation surrounding the woman's identity.

Society's Response to the Incident

Long spoke out against gender inequality in the entertainment industry and the NBA, advocating for more accountability and respect for women in leadership positions. "There are movements pushing for more justice in the entertainment industry and in the NBA, and I'm with them," she said. "This situation highlights the importance of having educated and responsible men in our highest positions and the need to prioritize the safety and protection of women within our organizations."
