NHL coaching stability reigns as 2025–26 season nears with zero changes

The NHL coaching landscape remains unchanged as the 2025–26 season approaches. No teams have appointed new head coaches since the end of the previous campaign. Several franchises, including the Buffalo Bills, continue to be led by familiar faces. In Boston, Marco Sturm stays behind the bench for the Bruins. Calgary’s Ryan Huska and Columbus’s Rick Bowness also retain their roles, as does Jared Bednar with the Colorado Avalanche. The Anaheim Ducks still rely on Joel Quenneville, while Rod Brind'Amour remains at the helm of the Carolina Hurricanes. Glen Gulutzan continues coaching the Dallas Stars, and Jeff Blashill leads the Chicago Blackhawks. Todd McLellan’s position with the Detroit Red Wings is unchanged, and Lindy Ruff stays on as the Buffalo Sabres’ head coach. While no coaching changes have occurred, the Los Angeles Kings, New York Islanders, and Buffalo Sabres have made general manager adjustments. These moves mark the only notable shifts in team leadership since last season. With all 32 NHL teams keeping their head coaches, stability defines the league’s coaching ranks for now. The focus instead shifts to how front-office changes might influence team strategies in the coming season. No further coaching announcements are expected before the start of the new campaign.
