A SPORTS CROSS-OVER EXTRAVAGANZA
Get ready to witness a fascinating fusion of talents in the 2023 All-Star Game. A staggering assortment of skill challenges will be showcased in the program, perfectly suited to the beach atmosphere.
During this year's extravaganza, the NHL Organizers are unveiling a never-before-seen challenge: Splash Shot - a precision-based shooting contest tailored to the beach environment, where eight competitors in four teams will face off near the water, deploying their finest "sniper" skills to sink pucks into floating targets.
Before the challenge begins, spectators and participants will have the opportunity to witness golf aficionados combining their sports passions at the inaugural Pitch 'n Puck. Six golf and hockey enthusiasts will take to a specially-designed par-4 golf hole based in South Beach, using both golf clubs and hockey sticks to score points based on how many strokes are required to sink the puck or ball into the hole. In case of a tie, a golf-style sprint to the finish line will decide the winner.
Last but certainly not least, even the goalkeepers will have their chance to shine in the NHL-first event, "Tendy Tandem The Goaltender Showdown," where two goaltenders will stand 5-meter apart, with one goalkeeper firing a puck, while an opposing goalie withstands an attack from multiple shooters. The score will be calculated based on the number of points earned, making it the most straightforward to comprehend the scoring system.
"I love watching sunsets by the beach!" - exclaims the distinct beach party atmosphere, with vibrantly-colored decor and music that deviates slightly from the typical hockey celebration.
Particular Challenges
Innovative skill challenges for the 2023 All-Star Game:
- Splash Shot: Competitors must shoot pucks into floating targets in Fort Lauderdale Beach. Eight participants are divided into four teams, each comprising two sharpshooters. Points are awarded for every target hit, and the team that sinks the opponent's puck wins.
- Pitch 'n Puck: Six golf and hockey enthusiasts will engage in a friendly competition at a par-4 golf hole set within South Beach. The golfer earning the fewest strokes with a combination of golf and hockey clubs wins the event.
- Tendy Tandem: A captivating goaltender showdown in South Beach. One goaltender fires a puck, while the opposition goes head-to-head with multiple shooters. Points will be awarded depending on the number of saves, with the goalkeeper accumulating the most points crowned the victor.
In true fashion, some conventional challenges will be preserved in their original form, including the "Breakaway Challenge" and "Accurate Shot." Both events are still anticipated to be thrilling highlights, while being expanded upon with the introduction of the novel skill competitions.
