NFL's unbeaten teams, Eagles and Rams, collide for answers in their fierce matchup
Philadelphia Eagles Stay Unbeaten, Face Passing Game Hurdles
The Philadelphia Eagles, one of ten teams to start the NFL season 2-0, are currently undefeated after defeating NFC East rivals Dallas and Kansas City in their last two games. However, quarterback Jalen Hurts has acknowledged struggles with the team's passing game.
Hurts' comments were made in the context of the Eagles' ground game, particularly their "tush-push" short-yardage play. This quarterback sneak has been effective, yielding a touchdown and a crucial late first down in their victory over the Chiefs. However, Chris Jones, a defensive tackle for Kansas City, contends that the nature of the "tush-push" play made it impossible for officials to call it properly.
Jordan Mailata, an Eagles tackle, expressed strong disagreement with the suggestion that the victory in Kansas City was solely due to the "tush-push" play. Mailata described the suggestion as "rubbish" and said it makes him angry to think about it.
Hurts stated that he takes accountability for the team's synchronization and operation issues. He has also expressed a desire to improve the Eagles' aerial attack but is not apologetic about winning in any way possible. The Rams coach, Sean McVay, plans to discuss the officiating of the "tush push" play with the NFL to ensure the Eagles don't get an illegal "rolling start."
Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers' quarterback Brock Purdy could potentially return after missing a victory at New Orleans due to shoulder and toe injuries. Purdy was injured during the NFL 2025 season in the opening game against the Seattle Seahawks, where he sustained injuries to his toe ("turf toe") and left shoulder from a hit after a pass. The game between the 49ers and Cardinals is scheduled to take place at Levi's Stadium on Sunday.
Elsewhere, the Chiefs are in unfamiliar territory as they head into a game against the Giants with a 0-2 record. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes feels a sense of urgency and sees the upcoming game against the Giants as an opportunity to prove themselves. The Chiefs have lost three straight games for the first time since Patrick Mahomes took over as quarterback, including their Super Bowl loss to the Eagles last February.
The Chiefs are looking to turn around their current losing streak and prove their worth as the Kansas City Chiefs in their upcoming game against the Giants. The Eagles and Rams, two of the teams that are currently undefeated, with at least one unbeaten team in each division, will also be in action this weekend. The Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers are also among the teams that have started the season 2-0.
