Kansas City Chiefs Suffer Second Loss of the Season to Philadelphia Eagles

The Kansas City Chiefs started their 2025 NFL season on a disappointing note, losing their second game to the Philadelphia Eagles with a score of 20-17. This marks the first time in Patrick Mahomes' career that he has lost three straight games, including the Super Bowl loss from last season.

The game, held at Arrowhead Stadium, was a closely contested affair, with both teams showing their mettle. However, it was the Eagles who emerged victorious, thanks to a late-game fumble by Travis Kelce, the all-time great tight end of the Chiefs, which would have likely been a go-ahead touchdown pass had he held onto it.

The Chiefs' defense, coordinated by Steve Spagnuolo, ranks 19th in the league for points allowed and 13th in yards allowed. On the offensive front, Andy Reid's offense currently ranks 24th in the league in points scored and 17th overall in yards gained.

Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback of the Chiefs, registered 445 yards across the two games of the season, having completed 40 of his 68 pass attempts for two touchdowns and one interception.

The absence of Dale Carter, the team announcer for 16 years, was felt by many. Carter's third down call had become a signature of game day, and his resignation, announced via a Facebook statement on Friday, was due to an issue with his iconic third down call. Carter felt that the production team crossed a line by asking him to stray away from what he had done for almost two decades.

Despite his departure, Carter wished the production team the best of luck and even congratulated his replacement, Nate Rohr, via a Facebook post. Carter wrote that he felt like a weight had been lifted from him after resigning.

The Chiefs will look to bounce back in their next game against the 0-2 New York Giants on September 21, starting at 8:20 pm ET. The Chiefs and Giants have split their last two matchups, 1-1, with both teams scoring 29 points in those contests.

The Chiefs have never been in an 0-2 hole at the start of a season since the Mahomes era, and the first time since 2014. The last six times the Chiefs started their season in this fashion, they have gone on to miss the playoffs. The team will be hoping to buck this trend and get their season back on track.
