NFL star Myles Garrett expresses shock over Micah Parsons' historic trade: "Wow, he really pulled it off!"
In a surprising turn of events, the NFL landscape is abuzz with excitement as two of its top pass-rushers, Myles Garrett and Micah Parsons, are set to face off this Sunday. However, this time, they'll be on opposite sides of the field.
Garrett, a defensive end for the Cleveland Browns, currently ranks first all-time in sacks per game, while Parsons, the linebacker who was recently acquired by the Green Bay Packers, holds the fifth spot. Prior to the trade, Parsons was a stalwart for the Dallas Cowboys.
The trade, which sent Parsons to the Packers, was unexpected by many. In return, the Cowboys received two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. The deal was a significant move for both teams, with Parsons' contract alone being a run-stopper acquisition for Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys.
Parsons' historic contract with the Packers, worth $188 million over four years, averaging around $47 million per year, is a major jump from Garrett's contract. Garrett reset the pass-rush market with a four-year extension averaging $40 million per year.
The Packers met the Dallas Cowboys' asking price for Parsons, and after signing his contract, Parsons texted Garrett asking if he had done right. Garrett responded with a supportive 'Na, you did perfect.'
Micah Parsons, who has recorded at least 12 sacks in each of his first four NFL seasons, has certainly made his mark in the league. His impressive performance earned him the Rookie of the Year award in 2021.
Meanwhile, Garrett, who was selected with the top pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, has recorded the second-most sacks (106) before turning 30 years old in NFL history.
As the two friends prepare to face each other this Sunday, both will aim to disrupt their friend's quarterbacks. The matchup promises to be an exciting one, with both players looking to prove their worth on the field.
