NFL Stars Set to Strut their Stuff in the Olympic Games
NFL proprietors to deliberate whether to endorse athletes for 2028 Olympic participation.
In a groundbreaking decision, the NFL has agreed to let its players represent their countries in the 2028 Olympic Games, with the Quinnipiac Draft Resolution MC-1 and G-4 of 2025 paving the way. This resolution lays out the guidelines for NFL athletes participating in the flag football tournament taking place in Los Angeles.
Flag football, a more compact, five-player version of American football, is set to grab the world's attention, as players tackle each other by grabbing the flag attached to their opponents' waist instead of brutally colliding body-to-body.
The resolution to be voted on shortly argues that allowing NFL stars to compete in the Olympics will ignite a frenzy of global excitement for the sport. The resolution states, "NFL players' participation in flag football during the 2028 Summer Olympics ... will foster such growth and further several league interests, such as escalating public fascination for flag football, expanding the NFL's global influence, and providing more opportunities for fan engagement and capital partners."
If passed, only one player per team will be allowed to don their national colors, along with each team's designated international player who can represent their home country.
Safety is paramount, and the NFL insists on league-wide insurance policies to cover potential injuries sustained during Olympic-related activities. Additionally, the Olympic flag football teams will be obligated to meet minimum standards for medical staff, and the field-playing surfaces will have to be upgraded to NFL standards to guarantee the well-being of the players.
Numerous NFL players have already expressed keen interest in participating in the Olympics, with Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts and Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, among others, throwing their hats in the ring.
