NFL imposes three-game suspension on Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison for breaching substance abuse regulations.
Minnesota Vikings' Jordan Addison Suspended for First Three Games of 2025 NFL Season
Jordan Addison, a wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, has been suspended without pay for the first three games of the 2025 NFL regular season due to a violation of the league’s Substances of Abuse Policy. This suspension stems from a DUI incident in July 2024, where he pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of wet reckless driving, admitting alcohol use related to the driving incident.
The suspension means Addison will miss the Vikings’ opening three games of the season, specifically the matchups against the Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, and Cincinnati Bengals. He will be eligible to return in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin.
The suspension leaves a significant gap in the Vikings' offense, as Addison was their No. 2 wide receiver last season. This could be particularly challenging for the team, especially with the young quarterback JJ McCarthy trying to establish himself as the franchise leader. In his absence, the Vikings will likely turn to fourth-year receiver Jalen Nailor, who started several games in 2024, to fill the void early in the season.
Anthony Barr, another key player for the Vikings, announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons. Barr, a four-time Pro Bowler, enjoyed a successful college career at the University of Pittsburgh, where he won the Fred Biletnikoff Award in 2021. In his rookie season with the Vikings, Barr caught 70 passes for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns. Last season, he caught 63 passes for 875 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games.
Jordan Addison's suspension is not his first run-in with the law. A year earlier, he was cited for speed and reckless driving. He allegedly went 140 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone at 3 a.m. In July 2024, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Ultimately, he pled guilty to a petty misdemeanor, resulting in a fine and temporary revocation of his driver's license.
Addison remains fully involved in training camp and preseason games, so he remains an active member of the team until the suspension games begin. The Vikings will undoubtedly miss his contributions on the field during those first three games of the season.
