NFL Draft: Running Back Rundown
It's time to talk about the 2025 NFL Draft and the running backs who have a shot at being drafted in the first round. Let's dig in!
We know for sure that one running back, Ashton Jeanty, is going high in the draft. But how about the rest? Will other teams follow suit and select a running back in the first round?
Last year, there was no first-round running back drafted, marking just the second time in the last three years this has happened. In 2022, Breece Hall was picked 36th overall. Ever since 2014, this has been a rare occurrence.
If you're betting on more than 2.5 running backs to be drafted in the first round, the odds are heavily in favor of the under.

So, who else has a shot at being a first-round pick in this year's draft?
Ashton Jeanty- Jeanty is a near lock for a first-round selection after setting a single-season record for rushing yards. He averaged 186 rushing yards per game in the 2024 season and finished with 4,769 yards and 50 touchdowns over 40 games.- The only question is whether he'll be a top-six pick. DraftKings has him with +200 odds to be picked 6th overall, which currently belongs to the Las Vegas Raiders. He has +400 odds to go 4th overall, currently held by the New England Patriots, and -160 odds to be picked 5th, where the Jacksonville Jaguars are currently slated to select.
Omarion Hampton- The North Carolina Tar Heel is the most likely running back to join Jeanty in the first round. He's racked up impressive stats the last two seasons, rushing for 1,504 and 1,660 yards, and has 30 rushing TDs and four receiving scores.- Hampton's Over 19.5 odds have been growing as the week has gone on, and he's considered the second-best running back in the class.
The Others
TreVeyon Henderson- Henderson is the only other market up on DraftKings at the time of publish for being a first-round pick. He has the shortest odds of any running back not named Jeanty or Hampton, with -120 odds to be a first-round pick.- Henderson had a 4.43 40 time and a 1.52 10-yard split, trailing teammate Quinshon Judkins by one one-hundredth of a second. Henderson only participated in position drills at Ohio State's pro day.
Quinshon Judkins- Judkins could be a mover up draft boards. He didn't bench at the combine, but had 24 reps at Ohio State's pro day. He has excellent measurables, making him a likely Day 2 pick, but there's a chance he moves up to the first round.
Kaleb Johnson- Johnson isn't expected to be a first-round pick; teams probably won't consider him.
Cameron Skattebo- A small back who took a beating in college, Skattebo may not have the measurables that teams look for, but he was impressive on the field. Still, he's not expected to be a first-round pick.
Dylan Sampson- Sampson has decent odds at DraftKings to be a first-round pick, but he's unlikely to be selected in the first round.
Prediction- If Henderson sneaks into the first round, going over 2.5 at +155 is a better bet than taking Henderson at -120, as Jeanty and Hampton should be selected.- While Judkins is an interesting long shot, we'll stick with the under and predict that we'll stay under 2.5 running backs selected in the first round.
So, let's give it up for Ashton Jeanty and Omarion Hampton, our top two picks for first-round running backs in the 2025 NFL Draft. And remember, that's just our take, so do your own research and make your own decisions! Good luck!
