The New York Giants have pulled off a shocker by snagging Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter with the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Rumors have been swirling about the Giants' decision to pick a quarterback, but they've gone against the grain yet again. Last season, they opted for Malik Nabers at number six overall. With another disappointing season under their belts, the Giants were in a prime position to draft another potential generational talent, and they didn't hesitate to grab the Nittany Lions product.

Carter is the consensus top defensive line prospect, and many believe he can be the next Micah Parsons for the Dallas Cowboys. Why? Well, Carter wore No. 11 at Penn State, just like Parsons did.

Carter was awarded the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, a Bednarik Award finalist, and a first-team All-American. He led the nation in tackles for loss with 23.5 on the season and racked up an impressive 12 sacks over 16 games, with 68 tackles and four passes defended.

There's just one tiny hiccup - Carter suffered a stress reaction in his foot last year. However, a recent medical update shows that his foot is healing and he doesn't require surgery.

Carter will be joining forces with two of the league's top defenders, edge rusher Brian Burns and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. With Kayvon Thibodeaux, who the Giants took in the first round in 2022, also part of this stacked defensive line, the Giants are banking on a formidable pass rush to revitalize their struggling defense.

Fun fact: Carter hails from Philadelphia and grew up an Eagles fan. But, given that they're now his NFC East rivals, we're guessing his loyalties might be shifting.

The Giants might not be done in the first round. Trade rumors have been circulating about GM Joe Schoen and his front office, as they're still on the hunt for a promising quarterback of the future despite signing veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency.
