The Unfiltered Take on Quinn Ewers' NFL Draft Slide | Straight Talk Sports
NFL criticized by ex-Texas star's agent for quarterback's draft drop
Get ready for some straight talk on the Dallas Cowboys' decision to draft Tyler Booker and what went down with former Texas Longhorns quarterback, Quinn Ewers.
Emmanuel Acho spills out his frustrations on the Cowboys taking Alabama guard Tyler Booker at No. 12. Meanwhile, Quinn Ewers, the top high school quarterback at one point, chose to go pro instead of transferring from the Texas Longhorns.
The interesting thing is, Ewers' draft projection had him going mid-round, but he ended up in the final round, getting picked by the Miami Dolphins. Ewers will be vying for the backup quarterback job alongside Zach Wilson.
Now, Ewers' agent, Ron Slavin, opened up to ESPN about the draft debacle, revealing that they thought Ewers could've easily landed with the Las Vegas Raiders or Seattle Seahawks during the second day of the draft. But, in a turn of events that Slavin deemed a "nightmare," the Raiders chose two FCS players instead.
Slavin shared that before the seventh round started, he had talks with the Dolphins and the Cowboys, but Miami was the one to finally take Ewers. Slavin admitted to reaching out to about half the league to figure out why Ewers slipped so far, with reasons suggesting that teams saw him as too big of a name to be a backup quarterback.
"They thought he was a third- or fourth-round pick, but too big of a name to be a clipboard holder," Slavin said, using some choice words to express his feelings[1].
Ewers himself plans to use this draft slight as fuel, acknowledging that the low expectation and his being the last quarterback drafted will serve as motivation. The Texan quarterback had a solid performance in 2024, putting up 3,472 passing yards and 31 touchdown passes, leading the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff[2].
Unfortunately, they were eliminated by Ohio State in the semifinals[2].
Now, Ewers prepares to make his mark with the Dolphins, aiming to climb the QB ladder alongside Zach Wilson.
