Kansas City Chiefs Face Injury Challenges During Training Camp
The Kansas City Chiefs are currently grappling with a series of injuries that are affecting their roster, particularly in the wide receiver position and other key areas.
Jake Briningstool, a tight end, is dealing with a hamstring injury, limiting his participation in training camp. Linebacker Jeff Bassa, safety Deon Bush, and cornerback Eric Scott have all missed at least one day of practice due to injuries. In the wide receiver group, Skyy Moore is sidelined with a hamstring injury, Hollywood Brown is missing due to an ankle issue, and Xavier Worthy is out with a concussion.
Worthy's injury occurred during practice when he banged his head on the ground. Besides Moore and Brown, the injury to Worthy further impacts the wide receiver group. Other roster members on the injured list include BJ Thompson (chest, non-football injury), Mecole Hardman (knee), and Marlon Tuipulotu (undisclosed).
In an attempt to bolster their receiver position, the Chiefs added depth last week by signing Hal Presley. The vacancy at wide receiver was filled by Kwamie Lassiter II, who recently signed for the Chiefs. Lassiter, who spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, ended his NFL career with 609 tackles, 25 interceptions, and four sacks.
Lassiter's NFL career history does not directly relate to the Kansas City Chiefs' current roster or situation. However, he did play his second career NFL game and recorded his first career reception, a two-yard catch, in the game against the Arizona Cardinals while with the Bengals in October 2023.
Prior to joining the Chiefs, Lassiter signed for the Bengals in May 2022 after going undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. In January 2023, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Bengals before being waived in August that year and signed to the practice squad again. Lassiter was released by the Bengals after roster cuts at the end of August 2022 but re-signed for the team's practice squad the following day.
Lassiter's father, also named Kwamie, was a safety for the Arizona Cardinals and spent eight years with the team before spending a year each with the San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams.
The Chiefs are also in the midst of an Arrowhead Stadium relocation dilemma, adding to the challenges they face. The team recently parted ways with wide receiver Justyn Ross, leaving another vacancy in the position.
- Despite the NFL Draft, Kwamie Lassiter began his NFL career in May 2022 with the Cincinnati Bengals.
- Lassiter's NFL debut was against the Arizona Cardinals in October 2023, where he recorded his first reception.
- With several wide receivers injured, including Skyy Moore, Hollywood Brown, and Xavier Worthy, the Kansas City Chiefs signed Lassiter to bolster their position.
- The National Football League (NFL) isn't the only sports league facing challenges; the Chiefs are also dealing with a relocation dilemma for Arrowhead Stadium.
