Kansas City Chiefs Sign Wide Receiver Kwamie Lassiter II

The Kansas City Chiefs have bolstered their receiver position with the signing of Kwamie Lassiter II. The veteran wideout joined the team last week, filling the vacancy left by the release of Justyn Ross.

Lassiter's career began in the National Football League (NFL) with the Cincinnati Bengals in May 2022, but he was released after roster cuts in August of the same year. He was re-signed to the Bengals' practice squad the following day. In January 2024, Lassiter signed a reserve contract with the Bengals again, but was released once more in August of that year.

Before his stint with the Bengals, Lassiter spent eight years with the Arizona Cardinals, one year with the San Diego Chargers, and one year with the St. Louis Rams. Interestingly, Lassiter is named after his father, Kwamie, who was a safety for the Arizona Cardinals.

Lassiter's NFL debut came during the Bengals' Week 5 game against the Arizona Cardinals in October 2023, when he was activated via a standard elevation. In this game, he recorded his first career reception, a two-yard catch.

The Chiefs had to evacuate training camp out of caution for fans due to lightning in the area before Lassiter's signing. As of early August 2025, the Chiefs have several key players with injuries leading up to the new season. Notably, wide receiver Skyy Moore is dealing with a hamstring injury, while Hollywood Brown has an ankle injury.

The Chiefs have also been affected by injuries to other players, including Kristian Fulton, who underwent knee “clean-up” surgery, and Jeffrey Bassa, who has an ankle injury. Darius Rush, Eric Scott Jr., Deon Bush, Jake Briningstool, Jared Wiley, Drue Tranquill, and Keaontay Ingram are also dealing with injuries.

Despite these challenges, the Chiefs are hopeful that their key offensive weapons like Hollywood Brown will recover in time for the new season. However, Rashee Rice has been missing time due to an NFL suspension.

Lassiter ended his career in the UFL, playing for the Memphis Showboats from December 2024 to June 2025. He concluded his NFL career with 609 tackles, 25 interceptions, and four sacks.

As the Chiefs prepare for the new season, Lassiter's signing provides a valuable addition to the team's receiver corps. His experience and skills will undoubtedly be an asset as the Chiefs aim to compete at the highest level.

The Kansas City Chiefs, known for their pursuit of excellence in American football, have added Kwamie Lassiter II to their receiver position. Lassiter's journey began in the NFL, but his stint with the Cincinnati Bengals was short-lived, with appearances in MMA and other sports seemingly tempting him. Nevertheless, his skills in American football are unquestionable, as demonstrated by his 609 tackles, 25 interceptions, and four sacks over his career. As the Chiefs gear up for the new season with injuries plaguing key players, Lassiter's experience and talent could prove invaluable in their quest to maintain their place among the elite teams in the NFL.
