Trump Slams NFL Teams Over Shedeur Sanders Draft Snub, Calls Owners "Stupid"
NFL bosses labelled 'foolish' for not drafting Shedeur Sanders in the first round, according to Trump's remarks
In an unexpected turn of events, President Donald Trump has lashed out at NFL franchise owners for reportedly overlooking Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the first round of the recent draft. Trump labelled the team owners as "stupid" for not recognizing Sanders' potential.
Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, didn't make it into the first 32 picks during the draft. While various mock drafts predicted Shedeur going in the first round, often to the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 21, there was no firm consensus on him being a first-round pick.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his dismay: "What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID? Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He's also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be 'picked' IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!"
At 23 years old, Sanders was recognized as the Big 12 offensive player of the year for the Buffaloes last season. NBC Sports' Connor Rogers ranked him as the 30th-best prospect in the entire class.
Trump has never shied away from voicing his opinions on the NFL in the past. In September 2017, during national anthem protests by NFL players, Trump stated, "Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, you'd say, 'Get that son of a b---- off the field right now. Out! He's fired!'"
Several owners publicly denounced Trump's comments, branding them divisive and inappropriate.
