In the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, a missile strike on an apartment building in the central city of Dnipro, Ukraine, has claimed the lives of four people. Simultaneously, explosions and fires were recorded at refineries in the Samara region of Russia, following drone attacks that also resulted in casualties.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported strikes on strategic objects of the Russian aggressor, including the Saratov Oil Refinery and the Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery in the Samara region. The extent of the damage to these facilities is currently unclear.

The fighting in Ukraine remains intense, with particular focus on the key area of Kupiansk in the northeastern Kharkiv region. The Ukrainian military has reported that Russia launched a large-scale aerial attack, firing 40 missiles and 580 drones, resulting in at least three deaths and dozens of injuries.

Meanwhile, in the diplomatic arena, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his readiness for a zoom meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but Putin has yet to indicate his willingness for such a meeting. The planned zoom meeting between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump is scheduled for next week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

During their talks, Zelensky is expected to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine and sanctions on Russia. The Ukrainian President is also planning for 'controlled exports' of some of its weapons. However, Kyiv has rejected territorial concessions and has proposed the deployment of European troops as a peacekeeping force, a proposal that Moscow finds unacceptable.

Three rounds of direct peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul have not resulted in any significant progress beyond large-scale prisoner exchanges. Russia maintains hardline demands, including that Ukraine fully cedes the eastern Donbas region.

Despite the ongoing conflict and diplomatic impasse, Zelensky has not given up on the prospect of dialogue. He has rejected territorial concessions and continues to advocate for security guarantees and sanctions against Russia. The future of the conflict remains uncertain, but the international community will be closely watching the developments in the coming weeks.
